A Berkeley County elementary school is being cleaned after more than 40 students went home sick Friday.
A spokesperson for the Berkeley County School District said 100 students from Whitesville Elementary School were absent from school and the additional 40 had to be sent home.
School officials say they were working with the Department of Health to find out exactly what caused the illness, and say the school will be cleaned over the weekend.
Workers are in the process of sanitizing all surfaces of the school with a bleach solution and will continue the work through the weekend.
Classes are scheduled to resume as normal Monday, but district officials are asking parents to keep their children home if they seem ill.
