According to the World Health Organization, or WHO, healthcare spending in the U.S. per person, is nearing $9,000/yr.

Over the weekend, a host of lowcountry community groups banded together, offering many of those services, for free.

The 25th annual Delma M. Woods & Aletha McLeod Bryant Health and Wellness Fair, kicked off at 9 a.m. Saturday inside the Arthur Christopher Community Center at 265 Fishburne Street in downtown Charleston.

The event, themed "Your Health is Your Wealth," offered screenings for blood pressure, blood glucose, total cholesterol, vision, dental, and many  others.

An-all volunteer group of more than 60 people organized the event, serving an expected 300 people.

The fair was hosted by the Tri-County Black Nurses Association, and included partners like Carolina Eye Care, Charleston ENT, Hollings Cancer Center, Lowcountry Food Bank, MUSC, Roper St. Francis, and SCE&G.
