CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A Charleston woman was arrested after her car crashed into a downtown home.
Taylor Barry, 22, faces a charge of driving under the influence, court records state.
Police responded to a home on Coming Street at approximately 2:10 a.m. on a report of a car that had struck a home at the intersection of Coming and Calhoun Streets. Officials said the car hit the corner of the home facing that intersection.
A woman standing next to her vehicle had a heavy smell of alcohol, said she had been drinking and admitting to driving her vehicle, the report states. Police say she was swaying side to side and had difficulty recalling the events of the evening. She had blood on her chin and what appeared to be a bruise on the left side of her forehead, the report states.
Police say the woman said she had not been driving at the time of the crash, but that an unknown woman she called Sarah drove the vehicle. The front air bag had been deployed and there was blood on the air bag, which led the woman to admit to driving the vehicle when police confronted her with the blood evidence, the report states.
The damaged section of the home was tarped off and the sidewalk surrounding the home is closed off with police tape and barriers.
Barry was being held in the Charleston County Detention Center.
