MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) -

Charleston County deputies say they will cite the driver who struck an 11-year-old boy in Mt. Pleasant Wednesday morning.

Investigators determined the driver was traveling on the fog line when the car struck the boy, Charleston County Sheriff's Maj. Eric Watson said.

The fog line is the solid white line that separates the lane from the shoulder of the road and is so named because it is designed to help drivers stay on the road during foggy conditions.

The driver will be cited for failure to exercise due care around a pedestrian and improper lane usage, Watson said.

Authorities responded to reports of an accident involving a pedestrian on Hamlin Road around 7:45 a.m. The boy was walking to his bus stop on Hamlin Road when he was struck by the vehicle, deputies say.

The child was transported to MUSC for treatment for possible leg injures, deputies say. No other kids were around when the accident occurred, according to witnesses.
