Orangeburg deputies trying to identify armed robber

ORANGEBURG, SC (WCSC) - Orangeburg deputies released a sketch of a suspect in the weekend armed robbery of a local hotel in the hopes someone would recognize him.

Deputies responded to the Hampton Inn on St. Matthews Road at 7:37 p.m. Saturday on a report of an armed robbery. A hotel employee told deputies the robber jumped over the hotel's front desk and removed the contents of the cash register. The suspect also stole the hotel employee's purse, according to deputies.

"Our investigation indicates the suspect is a Black male, during the time of the robbery he was wearing a black shirt, blue shorts, with a red bandanna or shirt covering his face," Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said.

Anyone who recognizes the person in the sketch should call Crime Stoppers at (888) CRIME-SC or Orangeburg County Investigations at (803) 534-3550.
