Police: Four injured after landscape truck plows into cars on Ravenel Bridge

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Officials with the Mount Pleasant Police Department say four people suffered minor injuries following an accident on the Ravenel Bridge Thursday afternoon.

According to MPPD officials, a landscape truck pulling a trailer struck five vehicles from behind. SCHP officials say the multi-vehicle accident happened around 4:43 p.m.

Authorities say four people were sent to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

A motorist said that the accident started when the driver of the truck failed to see that traffic was stopped at the base of the bridge.
According to the motorist, the truck then attempted to stop, but crashed into a number of vehicles.

The accident had shut down all northbound lanes on Highway 17.

At one point, officers were directing traffic towards Coleman Boulevard as crews cleared the scene.

Both lanes of traffic on the highway were re-opened shortly before 7 p.m.

Emergency personnel including police and the fire department responded to the scene.
