. - Charleston Police are warning West Ashley residents to beware of burglars posing as salesmen.
Police say a resident in Carolina Bay subdivision scared off two suspects who broke into her house Wednesday morning. According to investigators, the men knocked on the door, and when nobody answered, they kicked in the door.
Police say one of the suspects wore a suit and tie to make it look like he was a legitimate salesman. Their getaway car may have been a bluish purple, four door sedan with dark tinted windows.
Investigators say the suspects may have been in a Johns Island neighborhood yesterday.
A resident reported two men told her they were measuring the outside of her house for insurance purposes. Police say they left after talking with the homeowner for a few minutes.
Residents are being advised to keep their doors and garages locked and to not open doors for strangers.
If you see anyone suspicious call police at (843) 743-7200 or 911.
