Officials with the Cainhoy Fire Department say several cats perished in a mobile home fire in Cainhoy.
Emergency crews responded at 3:03 p.m. on Thursday to 543 Ladson Lane off of Cainhoy Road for a reported fully involved structure fire.
When first responders arrived at 3:15 p.m., they found a mobile home fully involved in flames. A report states that the home had already collapsed before units arrived.
The fire had also spread to a vehicle in front of the house.
Crews say they were able to confirm that no one was in the house at the time the fire broke out, however several cats perished in the blaze.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in 15 minutes. Crews remained on scene for an hour and a half to overhaul the area, douse hotspots, and ensure that the fire was completely extinguished.
The American Red Cross was called to the scene and is providing help to the residents.
According to CFD officials, the cause of the fire is still under investigation, however it does not appear suspicious in nature at this time.
The Cainhoy Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Cordesville Rural Fire Department and the City of Charleston Fire Department.
Berkeley County EMS also responded to the scene.
