CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Nighttime lane closures will continue through March 21 for a section of Harbor View Road in an ongoing road work project, Charleston County officials say.
Crews will be working between Fort Sumter Drive and Lawton Place, weather permitting, evenings and overnight hours, county spokesman Shawn Smetana said.
The lanes will close between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. on Sundays through Thursday and between 7 p.m. and 8 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
Flagmen will be on site to control traffic, and at no time will the entire roadway be blocked, Smetana said.
County officials say the project will improve traffic flow and safety on Harbor View Road including adequate bicycle and pedestrian facilities. The project is slated to be completed in the fall of 2016.
The project will include the addition of a center two-way left turn lane between North Shore Drive and Affirmation Boulevard, the addition of right turn lanes at major intersections, the addition of traffic signals at Fort Sumter Drive and Mikell Drive, the construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Harbor View Road and Fort Johnson Road and the addition of pedestrian and bicycle facilities, Smetana said in a statement.
Drivers should be on the lookout for equipment and crews working in the area.
