HARLEYVILLE, SC (WCSC) - One person died and four others were injured when their car lost control on I-26, left the roadway and struck multiple trees in the median, the Highway Patrol said.
Melvin Dion Meadows, 25, of Goose Creek, died from injuries sustained in the accident, according to Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet. Meadows was a passenger in the vehicle, Nisbet said.
The crash happened at approximately 4:10 a.m. Sunday.
Four other passengers were also injured. All five were transported from the scene to MUSC, South Carolina Highway Patrol Sr. Trooper Hannah Wimberly said.
Authorities say the car in which they were riding went off the left shoulder of the roadway in the eastbound lane of I-26 near mile marker 181 and struck several trees.
