COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) - A Dorchester County man purchased a winning $1 million lottery ticket during his work break, according to South Carolina Education Lottery officials.
The man, whose name was not released, said scratched the winning Million Dollar Series ticket on his work break, but that his co-workers didn't suspect a thing.
"I did get a little teary eyed," he said, but told lottery officials he went right back to work. Neither did his wife, who he said was "speechless" when she learned of the winning ticket.
The couple decided to keep the win quiet, paying off their mortgage and starting college funds for their children.
The man purchased the winning ticket at the EZ Stop 3 in Summerville, which means the store receives a $10,000 commission for selling the ticket.
Lottery officials say there are still two more $1 million prizes remaining.
The odds of winning that top prize, they say, are one in 1.6 million.
