DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Police say a man brought nearly $1,000 worth of counterfeit bills to a Dollar General store in Dorchester County.
Officials with the St. George Police Department say the incident happened at the store in St. George on Highway 78 on Thursday.
Employees notified investigators that a customer was attempting to make a purchase with counterfeit $100 bills; management said they noticed that the serial numbers on the bills were all the same.
According to police, after officers arrested the suspect, Dariaus Lavar Williams, investigators found that he was in possession of nine $100 counterfeit bills.
Williams was charged with forgery and booked into the Dorchester County Detention Center.
Police Chief Brett Camp contacted the United States Secret Service to assist in the investigation.
Officers are continuing to look for a green Nissan Maxima with Florida tags. Authorities believe the driver of the vehicle is the suspect's accomplice.
