CCSD: Suspect chase led to brief lockdown for Charleston school

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston Charter School for Math & Science went on a brief administrative lockdown for less than 10 minutes Wednesday morning, according to district officials.

During a traffic stop in the area of the school, a suspect fled on foot and police officers chased and apprehended that suspect, Charleston County School District spokesman Daniel Head said.

The school went on lockdown at approximately 9:20 a.m. until they received word the suspect was in custody.

"Any time there's an incident like that close to the school, the school will be placed on lockdown just as a precaution," Head said.
