Demolition begins on old Folly Creek bridge, expected to last a month
FOLLY BEACH, SC (WCSC) -
While Hundreds took their first trip over the new Folly Creek Bridge Wednesday, enjoying a larger overpass with several new features, SCDOT crews wasted no time, beginning demolition of its predecessor.
SCDOT officials say the destruction should last a month or more.
Crews will start at the top, center of the bridge and work toward the outside.
They'll lift the main structure of the bridge with a crane.
Then, they'll cut the caps and clear the pilings left over.
This work is just a sneak preview of what's coming to the Edge of America.
The new Folly River Bridge, a larger bridge, closer to Folly Beach, is expected to open in a few weeks.
