NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

The Charleston County Coroner's Office has identified a 62-year-old moped driver who died Thursday morning after being hit by a box truck along Cross County Road.

Authorities say Thomas Ancrum of North Charleston died from injuries sustained from the accident.

Police say the wreck occurred shortly before 7 a.m. in the 7300 block of Cross County Road. Officers say a box truck struck a moped, pinning the driver of the moped under the vehicle.

A preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the truck, identified as 31-year-old Juan Brizuela-Garcia, failed to yield to the right of way of the moped, police say. The driver has been charged with failure to yield right of way, and no SC driver's license.

Cross County Road was closed for several hours while crews responded to the scene. It has since been reopened.

The incident remains under investigation.
