CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Survivors of domestic violence spoke out Friday about their experiences and South Carolina's high ranking in domestic violence cases against woman.
South Carolina has one of the highest rates in the US. The public gathered to address ways to counteract that deadly concern.
Live 5 News anchor Raphael James was a moderator for the panel and question and answer segment. Lawmakers, police, journalists, families, and victim advocates also attended.
They shared their experiences and discussed possible solutions to the problem of domestic violence, including lawmakers, abusers, and the victims.
"What came out of this is huge," Marlvis Kennedy of Project Unity USA said, "Because we decided that it's time that we address the perpetrators as well of domestic violence this time, that we focus a little bit more on the victims as well, and help them throughout this process of domestic violence."
