MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Wando High school is preparing students to compete in the third annual Palmetto Cyber Defense Competition from April 11 to 13. Their classroom education provides them with the opportunity to sharpen their skills as cyber security professionals.
For ten weeks, they will be working alongside their mentors, who play the role of infiltrators in the network. The students must operate as a team to keep the infiltrators out, learning to work under pressure and respond to a crisis.
According to instructors, the pressure in the competition is unique, and the students are learning about defending against real world hacking situations. The students' skills will prepare them to secure networks such as health care and power infrastructure.
"What we're trying to do is to create the top notch students to go into the industry," one instructor said.
