WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Parents and teachers in Charleston County have a chance to raise their concerns about changing bell times for school.
A community forum begins at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at West Ashley High School.
West Ashley high school gets out at 2:15 p.m., but the middle school, West Ashley Magnet, doesn't get out till 4:15 p.m.
For parents with students attending both schools, that can be a problem, and it's one the district wants to fix.
Five title one schools starting later than the others in the district.
Morningside, West Ashley Magnet, Jerry Zucker Middle, Northwoods and Haut Gap are the five Title I schools starting later than others in the district.
Teachers said there were issues with students being dropped off before they arrived.
But parents have complained they didn't have as much time with their children at night.
The district says it already is dealing with a shortage of buses and drivers and having all schools in the district begin at the same time would take 53 more buses.
Tuesday night's forum will give all sides a chance to present and discuss different options and give feedback before the board votes.
