Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester Counties are among the fastest-growing counties in South Carolina, according to new U.S. Census data released Thursday morning.
The data shows Berkeley County is the fastest-growing county in the state and the 40th-fastest growing county in the country from 2010 to 2014, according to Berkeley County spokesman Michael Mule'.
Berkeley County Supervisor Bill Peagler said he was not surprised by the news.
"With great neighborhoods, great schools, beautiful lakes and parks, quick access to the ocean and major interstates, and great job opportunities – Berkeley County is a very desirable place to live, work and raise a family," Peagler said.
Peagler credits constant improvements made to infrastructure and government processes coupled with "very aggressive economic development efforts," and said he expects Berkeley County to remain at the top of the rankings for years to come.
Charleston County was listed as the fourth-fastest growing county in South Carolina and the 80th fastest in the nation, with Dorchester County listed at fifth-fastest growing in the state and 86th fastest in America.
Horry County was the second-fastest growing in South Carolina and Jasper County was third, the data states. The other Palmetto State counties appearing in the list are York and Lancaster.
