Charleston investigators make arrest in downtown fatal shooting

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston Police Department has arrested a 20-year-old man in connection to a fatal shooting that happened on Monday in downtown.

Investigators arrested Tequan Jamal Perry of North Charleston and charged him with murder, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

He was taken into custody in North Charleston.

At 6 p.m. on Monday, officers responded to a home on Norman Street where they found 25-year-old Brandon Washington on the ground in the driveway of a home.

Investigators say Washington had been shot to death.

Around 5:30 p.m., police responded to Sires Street, several blocks away from Norman Street, for a reported stabbing.

When officers arrived on scene they found a man covered in blood sitting on his front porch suffering from a gunshot wound. No arrests have been made in that case.

CPD spokesman Charles Francis said there is no indication that the two shootings are related.
