Johns Island Farmers Market prepares for Eat Local Challenge

The Johns Island Farmers Market is celebrating April as "Eat Local Month."

The whole community is encouraged to take part in the Eat Local Challenge. There will be a number of activities to educate the community and raise awareness about the benefits of supporting local food providers, and practicing good nutrition.

Weekly yoga lessons start on April 4 for all ages and levels. Other Saturday events include a local farm animal petting zoo, nutrition education and cooking demonstrations, a spring plant sale, and the Charleston Antique Tractor Show.

The Homegrown Johns Island Farmers Market is open year round every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2546 Maybank Highway.

The purpose of the Farmers Market is to offer a one-stop shopping experience provided entirely by local sources. Vendors sell a variety of goods including organically grown local produce, freshly baked breads and pastries, organic eggs, herbs, and spices, all natural pet food, all natural nut butters, jams and jellies, vegan fermented foods, prepared foods, and more.
