CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers says a new Boeing ad featuring Charleston Mayor Joe Riley is "on the line of being one-sided" considering it's timing.
The commercial started airing on the radio in February and will run until May 1.
"When I can pat them on the back deservedly, I welcome the opportunity to do so," Riley said.
The ad doesn't mention unions, but promotes the impact Boeing has had on the area.
"Boeing puts the community and its teammates first as they continue to build world-class airplanes in our backyard," Riley says in the commercial.
The company and the union have both been airing radio commercials, posting ads on websites, and using billboards to get out their message.
Riley says he's not taking a stand on the vote.
"That's a matter for employees to decide," Riley said. "Long before this vote issue, I would say the same kind of things I say formally there."
Riley says he's done similar commercials for companies like Benefitfocus or People Matter.
