Victim identified in fatal Berkeley County moped crash

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Berkeley County Coroner's Office identified the victim in a fatal crash involving a moped that collided with an 18-wheeler Wednesday morning.

Clifford Jackson, 56, died at the scene of the crash after his moped collided with the truck at approximately 11:10 a.m. on Jedburg Road, according to Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury.

The truck was coming off I-26 off-ramp and turning left on Jedburg Road when the incident occurred, Salisbury said.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says the moped ran a red light and collided with the 18-wheeler. SCHP officials say the moped driver was not wearing a helmet and contributed to the accident. Salisbury said the cause of death was head trauma.

The accident is being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Berkeley County Coroner's Office.

The exit ramp was shut down as authorities cleared the scene.
