CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

If you find yourself surrounded by people wearing various shades of blue, it's probably not a coincidence.

Thursday is World Autism Awareness Day and many wear blue to help support the cause.

The developmental disorder now affects one in 68 children and one in 42 boys. Doctors say autism is the fastest-growing developmental disorder in the country.

Besides wearing blue, some people also use blue light bulbs to illuminate their front porches. In previous years, Charleston landmarks have also "gone blue" for autism awareness.
