LADSON, SC (WCSC) - Officials with the North Charleston Fire Department say an early morning blaze at a landfill along Palmetto Commerce Parkway has been contained, but heavy smoke remains present in the area.
Officials say firefighters were called out to the Republic Services landfill around 3:20 a.m. for reports of a fire. Crews arrived to find a large pile of pallets burning.
The blaze has been contained, but not before consuming 1.5 acres of property, officials say.
Firefighters are still working to extinguish the flames, with officials noting smoke will continue to be seen in the area of Dorchester Road and Ladson for the rest of the day.
There have been no reports of injuries at this time.
The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control has been notified of the incident.
