MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - The coroner's office has identified a 20-year-old man who died after police say his girlfriend stabbed him at an apartment in Mount Pleasant on Monday.
The Charleston County Coroner's Office says Chad Fern died from a single stab wound.
Madison Rene Stroupe, 19, is being charged with murder and possession of a knife during the commission of a violent crime in connection to Fern's death.
On Tuesday morning, a judge denied bond for Stroupe.
Officers responded to a 911 call about the stabbing at the Boulevard Apartments just after 11 p.m. Monday night.
According to court documents, Stroupe called 911 and said she accidentally stabbed her boyfriend in the chest after an argument. Documents say Stroupe lived with her boyfriend at the Coleman Boulevard apartment complex.
Police found the victim with an injury consistent to a stab wound in the chest, according to court documents. Investigators say they recovered a pink steak knife from the scene.
Stroupe was arrested just after 5 a.m. Tuesday.
The judge set bond for the weapon charge at $100,000, but automatically denied bond for the murder. Only a circuit court judge can set bond in a murder case.
Stroupe is being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
