Ravenel bridge pedestrian walkway open following closure for 'potential protest'

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Officials with the Mount Pleasant Police Department say the Arthur Ravenel Bridge pedestrian walkway has re-opened after being shut down for a "potential protest" on Thursday.

Charleston Police, Mount Pleasant Police, the Charleston County Sheriff's Office and agents with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division were actively monitoring the bridge after learning of a "potential protest involving protesters interfering with traffic," Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis said.

Charleston police officials said traffic was moving normally and no protesters were on the bridge.

A tweet from Mount Pleasant Police said they had a plan in place "just in case the protesters show up to the bridge."
