BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Hanahan Elementary School was placed on an administrative lockdown for approximately 45 minutes on Friday morning because of nearby police operations.
A person who was believed to have been armed ran from North Charleston Police and U.S. Marshals in the area during a traffic stop according to Hanahan Police Lt. Michael Fowler.
The school went on lockdown from approximately 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m., Berkeley County School District spokesman Chip Sturgis said. The decision to put the school on lockdown was based on recommendations from law enforcement, he said.
