MONCKS CORNER, SC (WCSC) - A Cross High School student was arrested Thursday for possession of a handgun on campus.
According to the incident report, a deputy on patrol was alerted by an anonymous tip around 1 p.m. that the 17-year-old student had a gun. After meeting with the assistant principal, the deputy located the student, and conducted a search of the student's book bag, where a gun was found.
The gun was a revolver type and was unloaded, officials say.
The report states that the student was detained, charged with carrying a firearm on school property, and transported to the Berkeley County Detention Center. A hold has been placed, and a warrant is expected to be obtained while the student faces suspension and possible expulsion for the weapons charge.
