Dreary weather dampens attendance at East Coast Paddlesports & outdoor festival

JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - In the dreary weather, hundreds came out to enjoy the outdoors for the 25th annual East Coast Paddlesports & Outdoor Festival. Organizers and participants said they were hoping the event would draw-in even more.

"Well, I wish the weather was a little better," said Todd Hyatt who's participated in the festival for several years. "It's rained each day, thus far."

"The forecast hasn't been ideal," said Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission Director of Recreation Steve Hutton.

The three-day event encouraged people of all ages, and skill sets, to make nature their playground.

From canoeing, to kayaking, to paddleboarding, there were activities for everyone try.

Whether an expert on the water, or a beginner with the events, Charleston County Parks and Recreation Department holds the annual event to highlight the many great outdoor activities that are easily accessible around the Lowcountry.

Although attendance suffered this year, organizers say they'll put their paddles in the water and try again next year.
