NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) - The Charleston County Coroner's Office is asking for help locating the family of a man whose body was found in a marsh in North Charleston this past weekend.

Coroner Rae Wooten said the body of 63-year-old Leverne Reed or Reid, who lived in the North Charleston area, was located on Saturday in the area of Quitman Street.

During a press conference on Thursday, Wooten asked anyone with information on Reed to call the coroner's office at (843) 746-4030.

According to Wooten, Reed was last seen on April 9 after leaving the hospital and taking a cab home. The cab dropped him off in the area of Rivers and Dorchester.

"We're reaching out to the public to inquire about anyone that may have seen this individual, talked to him, if they can give us information about where they saw him, what he was doing, was he alone, was he with individuals," Wooten said.

Wooten said autopsy findings indicate there was no foul play in Reed's death, and toxicology tests will be done to determine cause and manner of death.

Officials state that the North Charleston Police Department responded shortly before 3 p.m. on Saturday to a report about a body in the marsh area on Quitman Street.

According to officials, the emergency call on Saturday came from a passerby who saw a body.

A report states that a male victim was found lying in the marsh and unresponsive. Upon the arrival of the officials, the victim was determined to be deceased.
