AWENDAW, SC (WCSC) - Three distressed boaters are now safe after being rescued near Awendaw early Tuesday morning, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard, along with Charleston County Marine Rescue, scooped up the three boaters near Capers Island, off the coast of Charleston.
Officials say Charleston County Dispatch was alerted around 1:45 a.m. that a 42-foot pleasure craft ran aground after its anchor broke free, and was taking on water in Whiteside Creek off the Intracoastal Waterway.
A shallow bottom boat was used to rescue the boaters and remove the craft.
Charleston County Rescue, Charleston County EMS, and the Isle of Palms Fire Department all responded.
No word on the condition of the boaters.
