COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina's Teacher of the Year is being announced at a banquet in Columbia.
State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman will announce the winner on Wednesday night during the event at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.
The winner is selected from five finalists chosen from among 83 teachers of the year from across the state. The teacher of the year wins $25,000 and gets to drive a new BMW for a year.
The winner also participates in the 2016 class of Leadership South Carolina and serves for a year as teacher in residence at the Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention and Advancement.
