NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say the motorcyclist transported to the hospital following an accident Wednesday afternoon on Rivers Avenue near died from his injuries.
Michael Record, 21, of Summerville, died at 7:29 p.m., according to Charleston County Dep. Coroner Kimberly Rhoton.
North Charleston police responded to the area of Rivers Avenue in front of Wild Wings for an accident involving a motorcycle and a Jeep SUV at 12:15 p.m..
According to an NCPD report, the Jeep was traveling west on Rivers Avenue attempting a left turn into a parking lot, while a motorcycle was traveling east on Rivers Avenue.
Two witnesses told investigators that the Jeep turned in front of the motorcycle which contributed to the collision by failing to yield the right of way; the police report states that the driver and the passenger of the Jeep also provided written statements on the incident.
The driver of the motorcycle was ejected upon impact and sustained significant injuries, police say.
At one point, officers had shut down eastbound lanes in the area as crews cleared the incident scene.
North Charleston police continue to investigate the crash and say no charges have been filed yet in the incident.
