Coroner identifies man killed in Thursday night boating accident

The Charleston County Coroner's Office has identified a 51-year-old man who died in a boating accident which injured two other people in the Charleston Harbor Thursday night.

Authorities say George Grainger of Charleston died from injuries sustained.

Crews from the Department of Natural Resources and Coast Guard Sector Charleston responded to a report of a boat running aground on Shutes Folly between 11 p.m. and midnight, according to Charleston County dispatchers.

Coast Guard officials say a male was killed after being ejected from the vessel, while two female passengers who were not ejected suffered injuries. The females were treated for injuries and transported by a boatcrew to Station Charleston, where EMS was waiting to take them to MUSC for further treatment.

The boat and it's three passengers reportedly had left Shem Creek during high tide before the boat later ran aground.

Authorities are still investigating the accident.
