CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston Jazz Club is presenting its Inaugural Spring Jazz Jam entitled "Divas, Legends & More!" on Sunday.
The event will be held at Barsa Tapas Lounge & Bar from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Modeled after the Annual Charleston Jazz Jam, the concert will have four hours of unscripted, unrehearsed jazz music, performed by more than fifty Charleston musicians.
Featured at the event will be John Tecklenburg, City of Charleston Mayoral candidate and a member of the Jazz Club.
"Our Spring Jazz Jam, 'Divas, Legends & More,' is our way of honoring John Tecklenburg, and supporting his candidacy for Mayor of Charleston," said organizer Steve Simon. "This is a great opportunity to hear great jazz, to showcase some of Charleston's best musicians and to meet John and hear him share his vision for Charleston, as well as his music."
The emcee will be jazz clarinetist and band leader Steve Simon. He will be accompanied by his band, the Kings of Jazz, to open the show.
Also among the performers will be former Charleston County Council Chairman Lonnie Hamilton, Oscar Rivers, Jr., George Kenny, Ann Caldwell, Bobbie Storm, Bobby Alvarez, Joy Pryor, Brenda McToyer, Richard Harris White, Jr., and more.
Future plans for the event are to turn it into an annual fundraiser for local charities.
The concert is free to the public.
Barsa Tapas is located at 630 King Street in Charleston.
