HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Police say a 21-year-old Murrells Inlet man who was arrested Friday has committed dozens of arsons in the Murrells Inlet and Garden City area over the past two and a half years.

Ryan P. Casiere was taken into custody Friday afternoon as a person of interest in two early-morning fires in Murrells Inlet, according to a news release from the Horry County Police Department. An investigation revealed he was responsible for these cases, and dozens of other arsons.

Casiere is seen on a surveillance camera lighting a fire in a dumpster behind a business on Grandhaven Drive in Murrells Inlet at about 2 a.m. Friday, according to arrest warrants.

During an interview with police, Casiere made statements about his direct involvement in the fires on Friday, over 20 dumpster fires in the area between October 2012 and April 2015, and the fires at several Murrells Inlet businesses and vehicles, according to arrest warrants.

Casiere was transported to the Horry County Detention Center, the release states, and will be charged in these arsons.

“The detective and the investigators are working closely with our Solicitor's Office to prosecute a significant number of cases,” the release states. “This arrest is the result of a joint investigation conducted by personnel from HCPD, SLED, ATF, MI/GC FD, and HCFR for the past 2 ½ years.”

Just before 2 a.m. Friday, officers responded to a call for an arson at the Powerhouse Bar and Grill on Highway 17 Bypass in Murrells inlet, according to Lt. Raul Denis with HCPD. A man driving on Highway 17 noticed the trash container at the business was on fire, and stopped to alert people inside. Horry County Fire Rescue arrived and extinguished the fire.

At about 4:30 a.m., officers responded to a second arson call at a home under construction on Waccamaw River Road. The building was completely destroyed by fire, and a canine was called in to check for signs of arson.
