BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

The Berkeley County Coroner's Office has identified the man who died Sunday night following a wreck on I-26.

Coroner Bill Salisbury says Christopher Hiers, of Summerville, was pronounced dead at Trident Hospital at 10:50 p.m., roughly one hour after he was involved in a two-vehicle wreck.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident happened in the westbound lanes, near mile marker 198, around 9:50 p.m.

Troopers say Hiers was driving a pick-up truck that ran into the back of a semi-truck, then ran off the side of the road into a ditch.

Hiers died from blunt force trauma, Salisbury said.

According to Highway Patrol, a passenger in the truck was taken to MUSC.

The driver of the semi-truck was taken to Summerville Medical with minor injuries, according to troopers.

The accident is still under investigation.
