Police: Death at club an apparent accident

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A death at a North Charleston club early Sunday morning was accidental, according to witnesses at the scene.

Police responded to the Bossez Lounge on St. Johns Avenue at approximately 1:40 a.m. regarding an altercation in progress.

Police reported several small verbal and physical altercations in the parking lot as the club was letting out, according to North Charleston Police spokesman Spencer Pryor.

As officers attempted to clear the parking lot and gain entry, they found the victim lying on the floor near a pool table, according to an incident report.

The victim's sister told police her brother was attempting to leave the bar area when he slipped on the floor and appeared to hit head head.

EMS arrived on scene to treat the victim and transported him to MUSC where he was pronounced dead.

Multiple witnesses including lounge employees corroborated the victim's sister's story that he had slipped and hit his head while attempting to leave.

The death is not being investigated as a homicide by police, Pryor said.

The victim's name and cause of death have not been released by the coroner's office.
