BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office has launched an app to facilitate communication between the public and deputies. Users will be able to access news and emergency alerts, and report crime tips.
The Berkeley County Sheriff App enables the Sheriff's Office to update the public about people wanted by the department, missing persons, and scams. It will also provide information about departmental activities and community service events.
Cash seized from drug busts provides the funding for the app's operations.
Major Melissa Blanchard of the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office developed and maintains the app for the county.
“Our daily job is to protect and serve,” Blanchard stated. “Along with our Facebook page and Twitter feed, this new app allows us to better protect and serve, while also improving the ability of the public to help fight crime. Moreover, we are able to provide this service at no cost to the taxpayers.”
The app is available as a free download on Android and Apple app stores.
