CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Friday was the perfect day to keep moving during lunch hour.
The purpose of "Walk at Lunch Day" was to encourage people to get out and walk wherever they were. But for some workers near Marion Square, there was also the chance to win prizes.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina set up a mile-long walking course.
Studies found that taking a lunch-break walk upped workers' moods and their ability to handle work-related stress.
And it's free.
"That's what's great about walking, no fee is required, you don't have to pay to join and do anything; really no equipment besides shoes," BCBS of South Carolina spokesman Adam Myrick said. "That's why its so easy and we know it's so important to health."
Walkers were in the running to win prizes related to fitness, like an Apple watch, a GoPro camera, and a gift card to a local sporting good store.
