NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) - More than 100 volunteers from Habitat for Humanity, the City of North Charleston, and Lowe's Heroes will be active this Monday as they construct a new home in the Joppa Way community on Celestial Court in North Charleston.
The event takes place as part of Habitat's National Women Build Week from May 2 to 10, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
During Women Build Week, over 100,000 volunteers are expected to participate across the country, representing Habitat's more than 300 affiliates.
As part of the National Women Build Week program, women are challenged to dedicate at least one day to assist with building affordable housing in their communities.
This year, Lowe's donated almost $2 million to the program, in addition to providing how-to clinics at stores to prepare volunteers with construction skills.
Charleston Habitat for Humanity serves the communities in downtown Charleston, West Ashley, and the City of North Charleston. Their goal is to build quality affordable housing to benefit working families who meet a strict criteria.
