CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The start of the Atlantic Hurricane season is less than a month away but we could see the first tropical system of the year in a few days.
If it forms as expected, it could affect the Lowcountry in the next few days with heavy rain and dangerous surf along our beaches.
The storm is organizing south of Miami and is expected to move through the Bahamas Tuesday before turning north toward the Lowcountry.
“This could be a big rain maker if the storm tracks close enough to our coast," says Live 5 meteorologist Justin Lock. "Right now the exact track and strength of this storm is still questionable but we do know it could affect the Lowcountry as early as Wednesday afternoon.”
The 2015 Atlantic Hurricane season doesn't officially begin until June 1.
