Driver charged with felony DUI following deadly Georgetown crash

GEORGETOWN, SC (WMBF) -One person was killed and one charged with causing the fatal, head-on collision in Georgetown Tuesday evening.

According to Sergeant Bob Beres, with SCHP, the two vehicle collision accident happened around 9:46 P.M.just three miles north of Georgetown on Secondary 51.

Georgetown County Coroner Kenny Johnson said Treyshawn Elder, 22, of Georgetown was killed in the wreck.

Elder was driving a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis at the time. According to SCHP, Elder was wearing his seatbelt and had three people in his vehicle. Those three were taken to Grand Strand Medical Center for their injuries as a result of the crash. Their conditions was not immediately available.

Sergeant Beres, reported the driver of a 2007 F-150, Frederick Travis, was traveling traveling north on Secondary 51 when the vehicle crossed the center line and hit the Mercury Grand Marquis traveling south, head-on.

Travis did have a passenger in the vehicle with him, and according to Sergeant Beres, both were uninjured.

Travis, 20, has been charged with felony DUI. He is only facing one charge of felony DUI at this time. The crash remains under investigation.
