Police searching for suspected downtown Charleston drug dealer

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police are searching for a suspected downtown Charleston drug dealer.

Charleston police officials say authorities are searching for 29-year-old Aaron Vernard Edwards.

Edwards is wanted for an incident that happened on Jan. 13, 2014, when police responded to the area of Isabella and North Hanover streets for a report of a man conducting a drug deal.

Officers reported locating .1 grams of a clear rock-like substance which tested positive for MDMA/Ecstasy in Edwards pocket.

In addition, CPD officials say after an officer had arrested Edwards and transported him to the Charleston County Detention Center, he could smell a fresh scent of marijuana coming from his patrol car.

The officer said after he told Edwards to get out of his vehicle, he found two cellophane bags, which contained marijuana and cocaine base, under the back seat.

A police report states Edwards said that the cocaine base, which he called "turkey," and the marijuana were his.

Authorities charged Edwards with possession of cocaine base and simple possession of marijuana.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
