COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) - The state's Department of Health and Environmental Control lifted the swimming advisory issued earlier in the week for a small section of Edisto Beach.
"Bacteria levels have returned to normal," David Payne of DHEC's Lowcountry Environmental Quality Control office in Beaufort said. "The affected area included 200 feet above and below the beach access at Atlantic Street. Normal activity can resume in this area."
The announcement came just one day after the advisory had been issued. High bacteria levels detected in that section of the beach led DHEC to warn people to stay out of the water.
