CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A Delta Airlines flight made an emergency landing Thursday afternoon at Charleston International Airport.
The flight, headed to New York City from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, reported smoke in the cockpit and mechanical issues according to airport spokesperson Charlene Gunnells.
It was diverted to Charleston's airport between 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m., airport officials say.
The passengers were escorted off the plane and are waiting in the airport's terminal for Delta to bring in another plane to take them to LaGuardia Airport.
The new flight is expected to take off at 7:10 p.m., officials say.
