Governor Nikki Haley is scheduled to make an announcement Monday morning regarding a economic development in the state.
Haley's announcement will be made at at 10:30 a.m. from the Governor's Mansion Complex in Columbia, S.C. She will be joined by Commerce Secretary Bobby Hitt and other state officials.
A release from the Governor's Office does not hint at what the announcement will actually be about, only stating it will be an economic development.
Speculation on Monday's announcement involves the possibility of Volvo setting up shop in South Carolina. The Swedish automaker had been eying Savannah and Berkeley County, among other sites, as possible locations for a new manufacturing plant.
Georgia officials learned Friday that Volvo did not choose their state for its first U.S. plant.
If Volvo does come to South Carolina it would become the second European automaker in the state. BMW opened its first U.S. plant in Greer, S.C. in 1994.
