BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Four thousand new jobs coming to Berkeley County will likely have a major impact on traffic around Ridgeville.
Highway 27, just off Interstate 26, is a back road that has been used to connect I-26 to 176 for years.
But once a newly-announced Volvo automobile plant is complete, the two-lane road will have to accommodate Volvo employees coming in and out of work along with the tens of thousands of cars that will be coming off the assembly line.
There is a plan in place to secure the money to expand roads in Berkeley County along with road improvements and water and sewage accommodations, according to the State Commerce Department.
But until a $150 million incentive package is approved, it's not clear whether additional lanes will be added to Highway 27 in time for Volvo's groundbreaking this fall.
