GOVE COUNTY, KS (WCSC) - Tuesday, May 12th
After spending another day on the road, we were nearing Colby, KS, our destination for the night, when we made a turn down an old dirt road with nothing to see for miles. Our professor told us we were taking a detour... but wouldn't tell us where we were going.
After close to an hour winding down rocky dirt roads, we arrived at Castle Rock, a dramatic rock formation weathered over centuries by wind and water. It got its name because it quite literally looks like a rock castle rising out of the prairie. It was easily one of the most gorgeous sights I have ever seen.
You'll notice beautiful blue skies in the attached photos....while they're not helping our mission to chase storms, they'll be changing by tomorrow as we head west toward Colorado. This weekend still looks to be explosive for storms in the Great Plains, but tomorrow we expect some bad weather as we approach the Rockies.
